The venture began with an investment by twelve local friends. All twelve share the responsibility for the brewing and distribution of the beer. Each one has a wealth of experience of working in different fields and by sharing their knowledge and expertise the company has made great strides since starting to produce beer in May 2011.
The twelve friends come from a variety of different backgrounds. Amongst them there are farmers, a cheese producer, carpenters a printer and publisher, an accountant a social worker and a sales representative. They are all driven by an enthusiasm for their locality and an aim to enhance the experience of visitors to Llŷn. An integral part of the enjoyment of visiting Llŷn is to sample the local culture and the excellent food. Local Welsh meat is readily available for the barbecue and the fruits of the sea are a favorite in local restaurants and pubs.
The establishment of Cwrw Llŷn now means that there is a local beer being brewed locally for sale in the area. Each pint has a good head, an excellent taste and a low carbon footprint. The spent brewing grains are used to fatten local pigs and the waste hops are also recycled. The local soft mountain water adds an unique taste to the brew.
Brewing began in an old cow shed in the heart of Llŷn. Using third hand equipment it was only possible to brew 6 Ferkins per brew. Demand soon exceeded supply. In January 2012 the company relocated to a new Brewery on an Industrial Estate in Nefyn . The Brewery now has the capacity to produce 18 Ferkins per brew as well as bottling beer
